THE HOW
What happens in a low level laser session?
During your initial consultation, we’ll review your medical history, perform an examination, and discuss our findings with you.
Low level laser therapy is carried out using a handheld device, which is placed directly on the skin or just above it. This device delivers specific wavelengths of red or near-infrared light to the affected area. The therapy is painless – some people notice a gentle warmth or tingling, while others feel nothing at all.
Each area is treated for a set amount of time, and a full session typically lasts 20 to 40 minutes. The session length will depend on the size of the area and the condition being treated.
THE WHY
Why Choose Active Chiropractic In Stafford?
During your first consultation, we’ll go through your relevant medical history. Your treatment therapist will perform an examination and discuss the findings with you. They might recommend other diagnosis services, like an ultrasound, blood tests or biomechanical assessment. The chiropractor will then discuss a personalised treatment plan with you.

Common Questions
Who can benefit from low level laser therapy?
Laser therapy can help patients of all ages dealing with pain, inflammation, or slow healing. It is particularly useful for those with arthritis, sports injuries, tendon or ligament issues, and people recovering from surgery or wounds.
How does it work compared to other therapies?
Unlike treatments that rely on heat or mechanical pressure, low level laser therapy uses light energy to stimulate your cells directly. This encourages faster healing at a cellular level and can reduce inflammation without the side effects of medication.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the treatment area. For example, shorts are ideal for knee or leg treatment, while a vest top may be better for shoulder or neck therapy.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on your condition:
- Acute injuries (sprains, recent inflammation) may respond within 2–6 sessions.
- Chronic conditions (arthritis, tendonitis, back pain) often require 8–20 sessions over several weeks for lasting benefit.
How quickly will I feel results?
Some people notice improvement after their very first session. For others, the benefits are more gradual and build up across multiple treatments.
Is low level laser therapy safe?
Yes. The treatment is non-invasive, painless, and widely considered safe when carried out by trained professionals. Protective goggles are always provided when needed to ensure safety.
What can’t be treated with laser therapy?
We cannot use laser therapy on:
- Eyes
- Cancerous or suspicious growths
- Abdomen or uterus during pregnancy
- Thyroid gland
- Testes or reproductive organs
Do I need to rest afterwards?
No downtime is required, you can resume normal activities immediately after your session.
