Hyaluronic Acid Injections Therapy

Hyaluronic acid injections can provide both short- and long-term relief from joint pain. This minimally invasive treatment helps lubricate the joints, reduce inflammation, and support smoother movement. Many patients experience less stiffness and discomfort, which can lead to improved mobility and overall quality of life.

How can injection therapy help?

THE WHAT

What is joint injection therapy?

Joint injections safely target specific joints and surrounding soft tissues to provide fast, effective pain relief. By reducing pain and inflammation, they can improve joint function, ease movement, and help you get back to your daily activities with greater comfort.

With joint injection therapy, many people experience less stiffness and discomfort, which can improve your mobility and overall quality of life.

Hyaluronic acid for joint injections

Hyaluronic acid injections are an option for some people with conditions like osteoarthritis.  They help to lubricate and cushion joints, reducing pain and improving mobility.

These joint injections offer short and long-term relief for joint pain. They’re an effective, minimally invasive treatment that can lubricate the joints and reduce inflammation. Hyaluronic acid injections typically provide longer lasting pain relief compared to steroid injections – around 6-12 months.

THE HOW

What issues can injection therapy treat?

What happens in a joint injection session?

During your first consultation, we’ll go through your relevant medical history. We check various important aspects, including any medication you’re currently taking. While the vast majority of medications have no impact on joint injections, there are some that risk interfering with it. If this is the case, we’ll discuss your options with you.

We will perform a thorough assessment to see whether injection therapy treatment is right for you. Our team will discuss our findings with you and recommend the most suitable option for improving your condition.

THE WHY

Why Choose Active Chiropractic In Stafford?

During your first consultation, we’ll go through your relevant medical history. Your treatment therapist will perform an examination and discuss the findings with you. They might recommend other diagnosis services, like an ultrasound, blood tests or biomechanical assessment. The chiropractor will then discuss a personalised treatment plan with you.

Common Questions

Who can benefit from joint injections?
Joint injections are especially helpful for people with osteoarthritis, chronic joint pain, or inflammation that has not responded to physiotherapy or medication. They can also benefit athletes or active individuals managing repetitive strain or joint overuse.

How do hyaluronic acid injections differ from steroid injections?
Steroid injections can offer quick pain relief but often only last for a few weeks to months. Hyaluronic acid injections work differently — they lubricate and cushion the joint, often providing longer-lasting relief (6–12 months) without some of the potential side effects linked to repeated steroid use.

What should I wear?
We recommend loose, comfortable clothing that allows access to the joint being treated. For knee injections, for example, shorts are ideal.

How soon will I feel results?
Some patients notice improvement within a few days, while for others it can take several weeks. Relief is gradual as the joint absorbs and benefits from the hyaluronic acid.

How long do the results last?
Most people experience 6–12 months of pain relief, depending on the severity of their condition and activity levels. Repeat treatments can be considered if symptoms return.

What should I do after treatment?

  • Rest for 2–3 days and avoid strenuous activity.
  • Keep to light walking and daily movements, but avoid running, heavy lifting, or high-impact sports for 2 weeks.
  • Follow any personalised aftercare guidance given by your practitioner.

Are joint injections safe?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid injections are widely used and considered safe. Mild swelling or discomfort at the injection site is the most common side effect, usually resolving within a few days. Severe reactions are rare.

Who is not suitable for joint injections?
You may not be suitable if you have:

  • A current infection in or around the joint,
  • Severe joint damage,
  • Certain allergies (which we will check in your consultation).

Your suitability will always be assessed carefully before treatment.
